The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) stepped up its monsoon response after heavy rains lashed the city on Sunday afternoon, deploying machinery and personnel to clear waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
Acting on the instructions of Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra, zonal commissioners, departmental officials, engineering staff and sanitation workers inspected areas affected by the rainfall. Airtech machines were deployed to remove stagnant water from key stretches, including Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road, Labbipet, Bridge area, Nirmala Convent Road and Bandar Road.
The measures were aimed at preventing traffic disruptions and reducing difficulties for pedestrians and residents. Officials said the waterlogging was cleared soon after the rainfall subsided.
The VMC has kept its Monsoon Response Teams on high alert, with equipment positioned at strategic locations across the city to respond quickly to emergencies. Authorities said the teams would continue monitoring vulnerable areas during the monsoon.
